Pack well, move well

December 9th, 2009 No comments

packing 300x199 Pack well, move well Moving house is a daunting task, no one seems to enjoy it as, let’s face it, it’s a lot of work! Once you say the word removals people start to freak out. But you can make life easier for yourself by ensuring you pack all your belongings in an organised and careful manner to make the unpacking part a lot less painful.

If you write on all your boxes what’s inside you will have no worries at the other end when you’re looking for certain items. Imagine if you wanted to unpack the kitchen goods but you couldn’t find them and you kept having to open every single box until you found one with some pots and pans in it? It would take forever and would certainly get on your nerves. So, first things first, label all your boxes.

Secondly, ensure you have packed your items safely, especially breakables. You don’t want to arrrive at your new house with all broken glassware and china. Especially if they were wedding gifts of items that belonged to your grandparents once upon a time. So ensure you use adequate amounts of bubble wrap and cushioning to avoid disaster.

Next, you need to ensure things are packed neatly, not just thrown into random boxes. This will help with organisation and safety of your goods. If things are packed well you be able to find them easily and there is less chance of breakage.

You could even pack some sweaters in with your glassware for extra padding, just make sure you write on the box that you’ve done that or you may find yourself wondering what happened to your glassware, when in fact it was simply covered by your sweaters.

How to pack Books
Don’t pack more than 30 kg of books in a box, unless you’re a regular competitor in strong man competition. Plug in small spaces in each box with smaller paperbacks. Rotate bindings every few books to keep piles level in each box tape shut and mark box books.

Where appropriate, mark boxes that need to be a certain way up. Big Removals always move boxes in an upright position but these items need to be marked “THIS WAY UP.” If you have valuable or antique books pack these separately and consider using extra packaging materials like bubble wrap. Big Removals can provide all necessary packaging materials. For more information follow the link – packaging materials.

How to pack Clothes
Wardrobe boxes are ideal and make life easier unpacking, clothes can be taken straight from wardrobe on hangers and hung straight into wardrobe box with no added ironing to do afterward. Although they can be expensive Big Removals can provide packing materials including wardrobe boxes. For information on Big Removals packaging costs follow the link – packaging material costs.

If boxes still have some space think about filling them with lightweight items like lamp shades covered in bubble wrap. Suitcases can be used for packing clothes. Write on boxes clothing or with the person’s name on so they can placed in their room.

Label the boxes Fragile, with the room of the house they’re going into and what the box contains. Always remove CDs or disks for machines and back up important files.

Packing Mirrors and Framed Pictures

Pack individual pieces or groups into Adjustable Mirror Boxes surrounded by adequate Packing Materials to ensure a safe journey. Label the boxes with Fragile and with the room destination. Wrap the picture or mirror in an ample amount of padding bubble wrap or paper.

Place in a flattened packing box carton. Carefully tape and seal the carton. Always stand glass, pictures and mirrors on their edge do not lay flat. Big Removals Packing Tip 2

September 9th, 2009 No comments

big removals packing tip2 Big Removals Packing Tip 2Big Removals, London’s leading removals service, provides another free removals tip on day three of its packing tip week. Home removals should not be rushed. You’ve planned ahead for your removal now you need to get proactive and collect the necessary materials for your removal service.

Packing Boxes

Acquire more boxes than you think you will need. Big Removals know, from many years of removals experience, that people are always surprised by how much they have collected.

Prior to packing cartons, you’ll need to wrap most items to guard them from scratching and shatter. Big Removals can provide all packing materials including boxes, adhesive tape and bubble wrap. For information on Big Removals packing materials follow the link – packaging materials.

Support the bottom of boxes with adhesive packing tape.  The last thing Big Removals want is to pick a box up, the bottom to open up and everything to crash to the floor. Fill boxes securely and pack well to prevent the contents from moving during your move. Close up boxes securely with packing tape. Boxes should be no more than 30kg in weight

List boxes

Make a main list of all household possessions and your personal effects. Number boxes when they are packed and sealed. Note on the main list the contents of the numbered boxes.

Big Removals likes to share it’s many years of home removal, office removal and international removal experience. We will continue to provide free removals advice for the next four days.

Big Removals Packing Tip 1

September 8th, 2009 No comments

big removals packing tip1 Big Removals Packing Tip 1In celebration of the relaunch of Big Removals website we are offering the benefit of our many years of removals experience. Big Removals knows the key to  beginning a successful removal service is how you pack your belongings. Each day for a week Big Removals will provide an expert packing tip for your possessions, which we have learned from many years of professional removals expertise. Big Removals first removals packing tip is all about preparation.

Wise Packing

Spend some time to prepare, taking into consideration how you are going to pack your property. Books are straightforward but weighty, valuables need particular care when wrapping and will take time, and certain furniture may need to be dismantled.

Pack a room at a time, labeling each box with details of its contents and where it should be placed in your new home e.g. kitchen, bathroom, garage. It is also an idea to tape a sign in rooms of your new house, with names corresponding to the boxes, so they can be placed directly in these rooms.

Visibly mark “Fragile” on the outer surface of cartons and try to be as accurate as possible. Don’t mark all boxes with fragile but only those which actually have breakable items inside. Be as detailed as you can as it will make unpacking a good deal easier.

Keep the load of your boxes sensible to avoid any back injuries, putting heavy objects in small boxes to make them easier to carry. Place lighter items in bigger boxes.
