Get on the good side of your neighbours

Hit Aussie TV show Neighbours shows why you should be nice to your neighbours

When you are looking to buy a new home you should be able to explore every single avenue of the house and its surroundings to get an idea of whether you will be happy there. Just like a real estate agent will show you around a house, you should have a local in the area show you around the neighbourhood and more importantly meet the new neighbours.

Having a good relationship with your neighbours can be the difference between whether you come home smiling or you staying at work because you dread to come home.

There are many ways to meet the neighbours without looking like a crazy person, remember when you were growing up and you could duck nextdoor to borrow a pint of milk if you ran out? That’s the type of relationship you should aim for again.

The most civilised way to go about it is to simply pop over one day, introduce yourself and ask them if they’d like to come around for drinks one evening. This way you can introduce them to the rest of your family and get to know a little bit about them in a relaxed environment.

If you fail to meet the neighbours and make it hard for them to introduce themselves to you then you place yourself at risk of becoming not only socially isolated in your street but they may not keep an eye out for you when you’re away and do things such as feed your cat or collect your mail. Things you should feel comfortable doing for your neighbours. Put simply, if you don’t get on with the neighbours you could be booking those removals guys sooner than you thought.

Even if you think they are the most hideous people in the world, you should still try your best to get along with them. It will make your lives so much easier and peaceful.

Build or Buy?

March 10th, 2010 1 comment

BuildingHouse Build or Buy?An age-old question, should you build a house or buy a house? There are many advantages and disadvantages to both, so it will ultimately come down to what your particular situation is. Building your dream home is something everyone wants to do, but sometimes it’s just out of the question. This can be down to a number of factors, but it’s generally financial issues that are the main concern.

To build a new home there’s the cost of buying the land, employing builders and architects as well as the cost of furnishings and paint etc, then of course the whole moving process with a removals, packing and storage company. However you will be getting your dream home with everything in the home designed by you. That’s something that’s priceless. Although a house in the making can also take a long time to complete. If you want or need to be in a new place quickly there’s no doubt buying is the way to go.

Buying is also great if you have something in mind already with a figure in mind and don’t want to bother with all the drama of starting from scratch. It’s easy to blow to budget when you’re building, not so much when you buy. The downside of buying is that you probably won’t get exactly what you want, but you’ll come pretty close. You can always do some renovations at a later stage if you find yourself wishing you had a particular feature.

Also, with builing there’s not a lot a land left to build on in town, sure there’s a lot out in the country but what if you want to live in a particular suburb in London? You won’t find any land in London to build on for an affordable price that’s for sure !

Neighbours make or break your lifestyle so be nice

February 10th, 2010 No comments

bad neighbours pic rex 992221888 Neighbours make or break your lifestyle so be nice Where you live is a very important factor in one’s life, it can even define who are as a person, what you like and dislike is easily reflected in your choice of suburb. So what happens when you’ve found the perfect house in the perfect suburb and you even scored big time with lovely neighbours, only to find out it’s all about to come crashing down around you?

Seeing a for sale sign in the yard of your neighbours house can be very dissapointing if you have really gotten to know and like the current tennants. Having great neighbours can make or break your lifestyle. If they have similar interests to you, kids around the same age and you get along with them it makes for a perfect scenario.

You might go to the park with them, have them over for dinner parties and might even share babysitting duties. The last thing you want to see is that removals truck pulling up outside their house to take them away and replace them with strangers who are probably fuddy duddy old people who are in bed by 6pm and call the police if one of the children accidently throws a football into their back yard.

If you do find yourself in this situation with new ridiculous neighbours, try your best to solve your problems without shouting or resorting to calling the authorities. If you are having a party, invite them, so they might not come but the thought was there. Try your best to get along with them and be as nice as you can, that way they will have less reason to be difficult with you. If it ever gets completely out of control you can always move!

Moving house the green way

December 30th, 2009 No comments

green house earth day1 300x300 Moving house the green wayIn this day and age it’s vitally important that we do all we can to cut back on the amount of rubbish we produce, power we use and the general damage we do to the environment daily. This is especially important to remember when moving house. You can move house while being kind to the environment and it won’t cost the earth, quite on the contrary actually, if you choose to move the green way you should find it costs you even less!

So how do you move the green way? Well, first things first, you need to cut back on your belongings. Do you really need all those chairs? What about all of that cutlery and all of those mugs? Moving house is the perfect time to de-clutter your lives as well as your home. Throw away everything you haven’t used in six months. This way you will have less to move and therefore will need less packaging.

Saving on packaging is a great way to save money and be environmentally friendly. If you have less things you won’t need as much bubble wrap, tape and packing boxes.

The next thing you can do is try to move everything in one go so the removals truck only needs to make one trip therefore reducing the amount of fuel it uses. This may seem like a small, insignificant way to cut back, but every little bit helps.

When it comes to using boxes to pack up your gear, go for the recycled ones and try asking your local supermarket for any of their unused boxes, banana boxes are great ones to get your hands on as they are usually quite strong so will be good for your more heavy items such as books and photo albums.

How to make the office move easier

December 23rd, 2009 No comments

office move Small 201x300 How to make the office move easier There are many ways to ensure your office move goes smoothly and to plan. The first thing you need to do is to set moving date and inform all staff of this date so each person can pack his/her own office the day before the move.

Ask everyone when they are packing their office to label each box and label each drawer with a corresponding number so the next day when you absolutely must have something you know was kept in drawer 16 you can go to box 16 and find it.

You will also need to find out if new the new space requires a remodel. If so, you should ask for staff input on their work area requirements and be sure you have adequate electrical, telephone, and cable capabilities for current and future needs.

You should contact your telephone company about installing new lines for the phone, fax and Internet and arrange for this to be done well in advance of the move or you may find yourselves stuck in the new office with no working phone lines.

You will also need to get the IT team to set up the work stations and network at the new location. Don’t plan computer upgrades to take place at time of move or you may find yourself without the use of your computers.

You should also decide on the layout of office furniture and equipment for the new office and measure spaces to be sure the current furniture and equipment will fit. You don’t want your new office looking all crowded and clunky.

The next step is probably the most important. You will need to hire an office removals company and ensure they are trustworthy and reliable, you may need to check their references to be sure. Encourage staff to leave the removalists to do their thing, don’t get anyone helping as they will only get in the way. The job will be done quicker if you leave it to the professionals.

Pack well, move well

December 9th, 2009 No comments

packing 300x199 Pack well, move well Moving house is a daunting task, no one seems to enjoy it as, let’s face it, it’s a lot of work! Once you say the word removals people start to freak out. But you can make life easier for yourself by ensuring you pack all your belongings in an organised and careful manner to make the unpacking part a lot less painful.

If you write on all your boxes what’s inside you will have no worries at the other end when you’re looking for certain items. Imagine if you wanted to unpack the kitchen goods but you couldn’t find them and you kept having to open every single box until you found one with some pots and pans in it? It would take forever and would certainly get on your nerves. So, first things first, label all your boxes.

Secondly, ensure you have packed your items safely, especially breakables. You don’t want to arrrive at your new house with all broken glassware and china. Especially if they were wedding gifts of items that belonged to your grandparents once upon a time. So ensure you use adequate amounts of bubble wrap and cushioning to avoid disaster.

Next, you need to ensure things are packed neatly, not just thrown into random boxes. This will help with organisation and safety of your goods. If things are packed well you be able to find them easily and there is less chance of breakage.

You could even pack some sweaters in with your glassware for extra padding, just make sure you write on the box that you’ve done that or you may find yourself wondering what happened to your glassware, when in fact it was simply covered by your sweaters.

Relocating overseas?

November 18th, 2009 No comments

pic international moves1 Relocating overseas? It’s bad enough having to think about moving house when it’s just around the corner let alone moving internationally. If you are relocating overseas for a new job or a life change, you shouldn’t have to worry about how you’ll get all your gear from one country to another. That’s where the international removal specialists come in.

Whether you are moving to Ireland or Iceland, international removal companies can take the hassle out of your move. Most companies will come over to your place and help you pack or even pack all your items without your help, it’s up to you. They will then move it from one country to another with ease and simplicity. They are professionals in the field so you can be rest assured your goods will arrive on time and undamaged.

When deciding on an international removals company, you need to ask them whether they have insurance, most companies will be insured for at least £100 000 for goods in transit, and ask them if it’s their staff that will conducting the entire move. Some companies shift your goods to another local removal service in the country you are moving to, which can lead to problems so ensure you know if the company is going to be responsible for your goods throughout the entire move.

Office moves are never easy

November 4th, 2009 No comments

Moving Office DoormatNo one ever seems to think about all the hard work and thought that goes into moving office. What often happens is there’s a meeting where everyone is told the office is moving.

Then a few weeks later you pack a little box with the items from your desk and wander over to the new office building where your desk and computer is waiting for you and you unpack your stapler and pens and off to work you go. It’s as though everything was magically moved during the night by a team of office moving fairies.

What you didn’t see was all the office removal men moving your desk through narrow alley ways and up flights of stairs, or the computer men who sat under your desk plugging in all the cords and setting up the entire office with a new computer system, or the office admin staff who did all the ringing around to find a decent office removal service. Which is extremely time consuming especially when you’re looking for affordable quotes.

There’s a lot of behind the scenes work that goes on during an office move, so don’t take it for granted.  It’s not easy finding a good office removals service, it’s a big job so plenty of companies will want it, but some of them can be slack and expensive so it’s important you find one that’s reliable and affordable.

Cubist Removals Services

October 25th, 2009 No comments

Big Removals, London’s best provider of removals services would like to take some time out of our busy schedule to pay tribute to a true great. Pablo Picasso died 36 years ago but if he hadn’t, yesterday would have been his 128th birthday. Big Removals is a long way of being 128 years old but we hope that our reputation for greatness will one day rivals that of the big mans.

removals services picasso

Picasso was the creator of cubism, a modern principle that artwork need not represent reality to have artistic value. Major cubist works by Picasso include his costumes and sets for Sergey Diaghilev’s ‘ballet russes’ in 1917 and more famously ‘the three musicians’ in 1921. Here at Big Removals we have our own concept of cubism and it has nothing to do with art in fact it is all about boxes. Our experienced removals services staff offer a complete packing service including wrapping, boxing and dismantling furniture, with a range of different shaped and sized boxes we will make a cubist masterpiece all of your own. Sadly Picasso died in 1973 at the age of 91 but you can still see his work as it is exhibited around the world, to check when his paintings will next be in your area then have a look at Picasso’s official website, for any removals services advice look at ours.
